How to Use PDF Sewing Patterns

Do you want to learn how to use PDF Sewing Patterns?

I’ve had many new clients that love the Ann Normandy Design sewing pattern collection, but haven’t used PDF sewing patterns before and don’t know where to begin.

This video will take you through the motion of purchasing an Ann Normandy Design PDF Sewing Pattern and the next steps on how to use it.

After completing the sale you will receive an email confirming payment.

Another email will be sent with the download link. This email will also include the order number, and the date and time of the purchase.

As a security measure established by my website provider, the link is good for only 24 hours. If you are unable to download the pattern within the time, send me an email at kcollins@ann-normandy.com and I’ll be happy to resend the link.

The sewing pattern files will be contained in a .zip format. Just click on the file link and it will automatically download to your computer.

  • For Mac users, go to your Finder window and go to Downloads.

  • For PC users, go to your Libraries window and go to Downloads.

Once opened, there will be 4 – 5 files included in the downloaded folder containing the following:

  • Information and instruction packet, (1 – 2 files),

  • 3 different versions of the sewing pattern.

The first file is the Information packet that will have all the information you will need to create the garment; similar with a pattern envelope. It contains:

  • The Cover Page

    • The sewing level.

    • Description.

    • Fabric suggestions.

    • Notions.

    • Table of contents of the sewing pattern.

    • 3 different file versions of the sewing pattern for your convenience.

      • Copyshop, full scale.

      • A0 Sheet size.

      • US Letter and A4 sheet size, tiled for the home printer.

  • Pattern printing instructions, for all 3 versions of the PDF sewing pattern. (See below for a description of each file version.)

  • The Size and Fabric Recommendation page.

    • Size chart.

    • Finished garment chart.

  • Technical line art of the garment.

  • Additional fabric recommendations.

  • Fabric Requirements and Pattern Layout. Note: All Ann Normandy Design PDF sewing patterns are in Imperial and Metric measurements.

  • Sewing pattern instructions.

Sewing Pattern File Versions:

Full Scale Copyshop Sewing Pattern File:

  • The sizes are nested within all of Ann Normandy Design PDF Sewing Patterns.

  • Important for all sewing patterns – Always print the pattern at actual size (100% scale). There is a 2 x 2 inch text box on each pattern, to assure that your pattern is at full scale.

  • To ensure you have printed at 100% scale, please measure that box.

A0 Sheet size:

  • These are typically used for architectural applications and are more common outside of the US and would be printed at a copyshop.

U.S. Letter and A4 Sheet Size pattern, tiled for the home printer:

  • The sewing pattern is sectioned and tiled to fit into a home printer sheet size.

  • Each tile is numbered and has notches to match up to create one full pattern.

  • You can then either trace or cut the pattern according to your size.

  • A grid to show what the full design should look like is provided in the pattern to use as a guide.

  • There is a 1 x 1 in or 2.5 x 2.5 cm text box on each pattern, to assure that your pattern is at full scale.

  • To ensure you have printed at 100% scale, please measure that box.
